European Commission European law Institute - Principleas on Blockchain Technology event austria lawyer Martin Hanzl

On March 22, 2023, the European Law Institute (ELI) event: High Level Forum on the ELI Principles on Blockchain Technology, Smart Contracts and Consumer Protection will take place.

Speaker Martin Hanzl – „Blockchain Technology & Smart Contracts“

We are pleased that EY Law lawyer for New Technology Martin Hanzl, together with experts, will once again be a speaker at the European Law Institute (ELI) event. The lawyer heads the New Technologies Desk at EY Law and, together with colleagues, is responsible for the ELI project on blockchain technology and smart contracts.

Blockchains and smart contracts are profoundly changing many areas of private transactions. The fundamental question is whether the current regulatory framework can easily cope with these novel forms of “self-executing” agreements or whether new solutions are needed. The ELI project aims to provide guidance on how to deal with blockchain or DLT.

The potential impacts and impacts of these technologies are enormous and, by definition, cross-border. National and EU legislation is slow to cope with these developments, which is why projects such as that of the European Law Institute and the guidelines presented therein are of immense importance for the economy.

As part of the ELI High Level Forum, Martin Hanzl will discuss the published Blockchain Guidelines together with the other project managers.
