Data Protection Law - Newsflash

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be directly applicable to all European Union Member States on the 25th of May 2018. It will bring significant changes regarding the data protection requirements and dramatically increase the applicable penalties. Member States can make specific details of the GDPR more concrete - in Austria this is to be done throughout the Data Protection Act 2018 (Datenschutz-Anpassungsgesetz 2018). On the 12th of May 2017, a ministerial draft thereof was published. At the same time, a review period, which ended last Friday, began. There are 109 partly right-critical opinions of this draft from ministries, universities, chambers and other interested parties.
